On Thursday, June 6, 2024, PT Geo Dipa Energi Persero (GDE) paid a working visit to PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) in Lumut Balai Area. This visit is part of the synergy between state-owned enterprises in the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia to support the government's NZE (Net Zero Emission) program by 2060, particularly in terms of operational processes, production, and the ongoing construction project of Lumut Balai Unit-2 geothermal power plant. The working visit was led by Supriadinata Marza, the Director of Operations & HSSE at PT Geo Dipa Energi (GDE), accompanied by the Corporate Secretary, General Manager of Patuha Unit, and General Manager of Dieng Unit. In his speech, Supriadinata Mirza highlighted the similarities in the business operation processes in the Lumut Balai Area, which is currently in the progress of constructing the Unit-2 geothermal power plant project. Therefore, it was deemed appropriate to have a firsthand look at the Lumut Balai Area, as GDE will also be developing the Patuha Unit-2 geothermal power plant in the future. Catur Hendro Utomo.S., the General Manager of the Lumut Balai Area, presented the operational processes, production, development plans, and various challenges faced in the area. Furthermore, the discussion focused on the updates of the Unit-2 geothermal power plant project, including HSSE aspects (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment), project organization, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. The discussion also covered the implementation and strategies of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) aspects, with an approach of adaptation and mitigation in the Lumut Balai field. It is hoped that the operation and project will provide benefits to the local government and community, especially in terms of energy resilience and economic growth, while still preserving the environmental ecosystem. The Lumut Balai Unit-2 geothermal power plant project is currently in the construction phase, and it is expected to enter the commissioning phase by December 2024, followed by commercial operation (Commercial On Date/COD). The development of geothermal energy in the Lumut Balai area in South Sumatra has a geothermal energy potential of 230 MW, with a proven capacity of 150 MW, leaving room for future development," Catur concluded.
