Participants in the upcoming Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program will be introduced to two new subjects. Abdul Mu'ti, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, shared that this initiative aims to enhance the quality of educators in Indonesia. He explained that the new subjects in the PPG curriculum are designed to align with four essential competencies that teachers need to develop: personal, pedagogical, social, and professional competencies. "As a result, those who join the Teacher Professional Education can look forward to learning about guidance counseling and value education," he mentioned during the National Teacher's Day celebration, which also recognized November as National Teacher Month, according to the Ministry of Education and Culture. Mu'ti highlighted three important requirements for nurturing professional and successful teachers, with the PPG program being one of them. The second requirement focuses on teacher certification. To assist this process, the Ministry will offer support to teachers who do not possess a Bachelor's degree (S1) or a Diploma IV (D4). Our upcoming projects, with God's grace, will provide scholarships or educational assistance for teachers looking to further their studies to D4 or S1 levels, he mentioned. He also highlighted the ongoing dedication to improving teachers' welfare. "The quality and excellence of teachers are greatly affected by their well-being," Abdul Mu'ti stated. PPG is a program designed for aspiring or current teachers to obtain a teaching certificate. Its aim is to enhance the skills and qualifications of teachers, ensuring they are well-prepared to teach at both elementary and secondary education levels. There are two categories of PPG: one for aspiring teachers (pre-service) and another for current teachers in designated roles (in-service). Those who successfully apply for PPG will receive educational funding of Rp 17 million to support their studies for two semesters or one academic year.
