Two Vertical Hospitals of the Ministry of Health (RSVK) have achieved remarkable achievements by being listed as the best specialized hospitals in the Asia Pacific region in their respective main fields of expertise. This award is based on a survey conducted by Newsweek, a global media organization based in New York City, USA, in February-April 2024. These two proud RSVKs in Indonesia are the National Cancer Center of Dharmais Cancer Hospital (RSK), which ranked 78th in the field of oncology, and Dr. CiptoMangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSUPN), which ranked 64th in the field of orthopedics. "What both hospitals have received is concrete evidence of the existing referral service. Hopefully, this can also be an encouragement for other vertical hospitals to continue improving their capacity as national referral centers," said the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) spokesperson, Dr. M Syahril. Newsweek's Global Editor in Chief, Nancy Cooper, revealed that the annual ranking of "Best Specialized Asia Pacific Hospitals" is the second time it has been held. The aim is to recognize hospitals in nine medical fields, including cardiac surgery, cardiology, endocrinology, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, and pulmonology. "This list has also recognized leading healthcare facilities in APAC countries such as Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia," Nancy stated. The ranking is based on data analysis from three sources: an international online survey, certifications, and the implementation survey of Statista Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). The international online survey was aimed at medical professionals in various countries, including doctors, nurses, physician assistants, therapists, and management/administrative staff. They were invited to participate in an online survey in collaboration with Newsweek. In this survey, respondents were asked to recommend hospitals in their own country and international hospitals according to their expertise. Meanwhile, certification is based on the relevant Joint Commission International (JCI1) in specific medical fields. The considered certifications are tailored to specializations, such as breast cancer certification for the oncology category. For the first time, PROMs scores are included in the assessment of "Best Specialized Asia Pacific Hospitals". The measurement of these reported PROMs outcomes is defined as standardized and validated questionnaires filled out by patients to measure their perception of functional well-being and quality of life. Nancy hopes that the "Best Specialized Asia Pacific Hospitals 2024" award can help patients navigate the increasingly diverse medical services in the APAC region. "Receiving specialized care at top-ranked institutions can have a significant impact on patients' lives. Additionally, knowing where to find the best treatment can be a valuable source of information," Nancy concluded.
