House To Revise Law On Ministries Of State

Wednesday, 15 May 2024

"The Draft Law on Ministries of State (RUU Kementerian Negara) is currently being discussed by the House of Representatives (DPR) of Indonesia. The bill aims to revise the existing Law on Ministries of State, which was enacted in 2008.

Key Points of the RUU Kementerian Negara:

Removal of the maximum limit on the number of ministries: The current law sets a maximum limit of 34 ministries. The RUU would remove this limit, giving the President more flexibility to determine the number of ministries based on the needs of the country.

Establishment of a new category of ministries: The RUU would create a new category of ministries called ""super ministries"". These super ministries would be responsible for overseeing several related ministries.

Streamlining of ministerial functions: The RUU would streamline the functions of ministries to eliminate duplication and overlap.

Strengthening the role of the Vice President: The RUU would strengthen the role of the Vice President in coordinating the work of ministries.

The RUU Kementerian Negara has been met with mixed reactions. Some support the bill, arguing that it will give the President more flexibility to manage the government and improve efficiency. Others are concerned that the bill will lead to the creation of a bloated bureaucracy and reduce accountability.

The RUU is currently in the early stages of the legislative process. It is still too early to say whether or not it will be passed into law."
