Thursday, 22 May 2025

The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) has spoken out about the issue of replacing the Director General of Taxes and the Director General of Customs and Excise.

From the information circulating, the Director General of Customs and Excise Askolani is rumored to be replaced by Lieutenant General TNI Djaka Budi Utama, while the Director General of Taxes is rumored to be replaced by Bimo Wijayanto.

Meanwhile, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta, Monday, the Head of the Ministry of Finance's Communication and Information Services Bureau, Deni Surjantoro, stated that he could not yet confirm the news.

"We cannot respond to that yet," said Deni in a written message.

On a separate occasion, the Director General of Customs and Excise Askolani was reluctant to provide a response to the rumors regarding his position.

Met by reporters at the Parliament Complex, he only answered that he did not know anything about the discourse on the shift in the position he currently holds.

"Oh, I don't know," he said.

For the record, Askolani has served as Director General of Customs and Excise since March 12, 2021. Meanwhile, the position of Director General of Taxes has been led by Suryo Utomo since November 1, 2019.

Meanwhile, Djaka Budi Utama is now the Main Secretary of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and Bimo Wijayanto is a former Main Expert Staff of Deputy II of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) and a former Assistant Deputy for Strategic Investment at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment.

The performance of customs and excise revenues reached IDR 77.5 trillion in March 2025, equivalent to 25.6 percent of the State Budget (APBN) target.

Then the performance of tax revenues increased from IDR 187.8 trillion in February to IDR 322.6 trillion in March. The Ministry of Finance noted that there was a rebound or reversal in March thanks to the growth in income tax (PPh) 21 revenues and domestic (DN) value added tax (PPN). Improvements in tax administration and implementation of Coretax are also said to drive the recovery of tax performance.
