BAPETEN Holds 2026 Fiscal Year Work Meeting To Strengthen Nuclear Oversight

Jakarta – The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) commenced its first Work Meeting for the 2026 Fiscal Year on February 23-24, 2026, at the BAPETEN Building in Jakarta. The gathering brought together the agency's key leadership, including Acting Chairman Zainal Arifin, Deputy for Nuclear Assessment and Safety Haendra Subekti who also serves as Acting Secretary, along with heads of work units and their staff. The event was organized under the theme "One Vision, One Action: Strengthening Impactful Nuclear Oversight within the Framework of the Presidential Directive."

The meeting was designed as a foundational step to refine strategies and unify the agency's vision for successfully implementing its 2026 programs. In his opening remarks, Acting Chairman Arifin emphasized the importance of the forum as a platform for deepening the understanding of planning, budget utilization, evaluation, and potential budgetary adjustments. The theme itself underscores a call for more intelligent and efficient work that delivers greater impact than in previous years.

The first day's agenda commenced with a report on the implementation of the work meeting delivered by Roy Candra Primarsa, Acting Head of the Bureau of Planning, Information, and Finance. Following this, the session proceeded with a presentation on the 2025 Performance Achievements and Reports. A significant portion of the day was dedicated to insights from the Ministry of Finance, with representatives Achmad Puji Slamet and Heru Hermawan from the Directorate General of Treasury presenting an evaluation of expenditures from Non-Tax State Revenue sources and policies regarding its disbursement.

The initial day concluded with presentations outlining the 2026 activity strategies from two key units: the Licensing and Inspection Unit, and the Nuclear Assessment and Safety Unit. These sessions provided a first look at the technical and operational roadmaps for the coming year, setting the stage for deeper discussions on the second day.

On the second day, the focus shifted to administrative strategy with a presentation from the Office of the Secretary General. Subsequently, the meeting broke into thematic groups to address strategic issues within the scope of nuclear oversight. These focused discussions covered priority areas including health, energy, environment, science and technology, and institutional strengthening, reflecting the broad impact of BAPETEN's regulatory work.

A key moment of the second day was the formal signing of documents, including Performance Agreements, Annual Performance Plans, Action Plans, and Integrity Pacts for the 2026 fiscal year. The signing was initiated by Acting Chairman Arifin, witnessed by the Deputy for Nuclear Assessment and Safety, and was followed by signings at the work unit and unit levels, involving directors and heads of centers and bureaus across BAPETEN.

The work meeting was officially closed by Acting Secretary Haendra Subekti. In his closing remarks, he stressed the importance of translating vision into action. "Dreams must be accompanied by action," he stated. "Our next task is to refine what we have presented. Together, we must understand the goals and the division of tasks. A spirit of togetherness is essential." The two-day meeting reaffirmed BAPETEN's commitment to strengthening its role in thematic areas such as health, energy, and science, ensuring its oversight remains relevant, integrated, and impactful in line with national directives.
