Washington D.C. – A historic milestone in bilateral economic relations was achieved as Indonesia and the United States cemented USD 38.4 billion in trade and investment commitments during the US-Indonesia Business Summit 2026. The event, held in the US capital on Wednesday, brought together leading American corporations and Indonesian business leaders, with President Prabowo Subianto personally witnessing the signing of 11 cooperation agreements.
The summit was jointly organized by the US Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and the US-Indonesia Society, reflecting the strong backing of the American business community for deeper economic engagement with Indonesia. President Prabowo's presence underscored the strategic importance his administration places on fostering transparent and credible partnerships with international investors.
In his address during the roundtable session and subsequent Gala Iftar Dinner keynote, President Prabowo articulated his vision for Indonesia's economic governance. "I understand how the market works. The market values transparency, discipline, and credibility," he stated firmly. "My responsibility as President is to strengthen governance, enhance transparency, and ensure that we meet international standards. This is about maintaining the integrity of our economy and long-term investor confidence."

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied the President, emphasized the summit's role in bridging business communities from both nations. He noted that engaging major US corporations alongside Indonesian chambers of commerce and industry associations is crucial for driving collaboration in trade, industry, and investment. The focus, he explained, is on sectors that will enhance Indonesia's global competitiveness.
Minister Airlangga specifically highlighted the recently concluded Agreement on Reciprocal Trade as a foundational achievement. This agreement, he explained, commits both nations to expanding market access and resolving tariff and non-tariff barriers, thereby creating greater business certainty. "Through this ART agreement, we will further strengthen market access and the competitiveness of Indonesian products, which will attract greater investment across various sectors," he affirmed.
The agro sector emerged as a significant beneficiary of the summit, with purchase commitments totaling USD 4.5 billion. These agreements encompass major commodity supplies including soybeans valued at USD 1.37 billion, wheat purchases extending to 2030 worth USD 1.25 billion, corn at USD 855 million, cotton at USD 244 million, and other agricultural products amounting to USD 800 million.
Even more substantial were the manufacturing sector commitments, reaching USD 33.91 billion. Notable among these was a USD 2 billion cooperation framework between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the US-ASEAN Business Council. Additionally, agreements included USD 200 million for shredded worn clothing as industrial raw material, and two major semiconductor industry investment commitments totaling USD 4.89 billion and USD 26.7 billion respectively.
The signing ceremony, held during the Gala Iftar Dinner in the presence of President Prabowo, saw direct engagement between American and Indonesian company leaders who formalized their partnership agreements. This high-level interaction signaled the deepening trust between the business communities of both nations and their shared commitment to long-term economic collaboration.
