KAI Logistik, a subsidiary of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), is strengthening its position in the domestic logistics industry by providing reliable logistics services to enhance national logistics. As of October 2024, KAI Logistik has managed over 22 million tons of goods, including around 20 million tons of coal transport, 1.9 million tons of container transport, 451,080 tons of cement transport, 7,800 tons of hazardous waste transport, and 49,000 tons of courier services.

Fredi Firmansyah, the CEO of KAI Logistik, stated that in October 2024, the volume of goods transported by KAI Logistik increased by about 15% compared to the average monthly volume of 2.2 million tons in 2024. The company is optimistic that in the remaining two months, it can enhance its performance in both operational and financial aspects.

By the third quarter of 2024, KAI Logistik recorded an average monthly volume of 2.2 million tons, and in October, it managed over 2.5 million tons. The majority of this volume came from coal transport in South Sumatra, accounting for 90% of the total, approximately 2.3 million tons. In October, the container transport and hazardous waste transport segments exceeded their monthly targets, with container transport handling 210,000 tons and hazardous waste transport managing around 1,500 tons. Meanwhile, courier services contributed about 5,100 tons.

In the last three months, there has been a consistent upward trend in container and hazardous waste transport. During this period, container transport performance was 8% above target, while hazardous waste transport exceeded its target by around 40%.

The hazardous waste transport service is provided through KALOG Pro, which prioritizes safety and security to minimize environmental contamination risks during transit, with strict SOPs, escorts, and inspections at four stopping points. The B3 waste transport has received approval from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in container transport, the company continues to innovate to optimize the logistics supply chain. Steps taken include improving container transport connectivity in strategic areas like ports and industrial zones, strengthening cold chain logistics, implementing RFID technology on container units, and obtaining Halal Logistics certification from BPJPH (Halal Product Assurance Agency) for distribution services registered at three terminals: Sungai Lagoa Cargo Terminal, Klari Cargo Terminal, and Kalimas Cargo Terminal.

"We appreciate businesses that have chosen rail transport as a more environmentally friendly option, which is not only more competitive economically but also significantly contributes to environmental sustainability and reduces the risk of road infrastructure damage due to excessive loads," Fredi concluded.
