PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting social, economic, and environmental sustainability for coastal communities through the Independent Energy Village (DEB) initiative, specifically the Sustainable Fisherman Family program (KENALI) in Kelan Village, Bali. This initiative is a collaboration between PIS, Divers Clean Action (DCA), and the Tanjung Sari Fishermen's Cooperative (KUB), forming part of PIS's larger BerSEAnergi for the Sea program. It was symbolically launched with a trial of the Manta One ship, an innovative environmentally friendly battery-powered vessel, on Thursday (December 5). PIS also provided support in the form of five electric boat engines and ten batteries for the fishermen in the cooperative. "In the KENALI program, we collaborate with various parties, including the fishing community, to introduce renewable and clean energy sources in Kelan Village, which can boost the economy, especially for coastal residents," said PIS Corporate Secretary Muhammad Baron. PIS also engaged local youth, specifically students from SD Negeri 3 Tuban, in the boat engine trial, which included educational activities on marine microplastics to enhance understanding of environmental conservation, particularly in coastal areas. Additionally, the event involved the Tanjung Sari women's group through alternative blue food education. "We welcome the KENALI program in Kelan Village. We hope that the installation of green energy and various support initiatives will enhance the economic productivity of the community in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way, leading to a broad positive impact on the welfare and empowerment of coastal communities," said I Made Tama, Vice Chairman of KUB Tanjung Sari. Through an integrated approach, KENALI aims to serve as a collaborative model that can be replicated in other coastal areas. This initiative by PIS focuses on energy sustainability, environmental protection, and community empowerment. The various support and guidance provided reflect PIS's commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of economic opportunities based on green energy. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 3 for good health and well-being, Goal 13 for climate action, and Goal 14 for life below water. "We hope that multi-stakeholder collaboration programs like the one we implemented in the Kelan Traditional Village can serve as a model for other coastal regions in Indonesia. By involving various parties, we can achieve energy independence and improve the socio-economic welfare of coastal communities for future generations," concluded Baron.
