The Establishment Of Specific Policies For The Digital Economy Is Crucial To Achieving The Targets Set For 2030

Friday, 06 Sep 2024

The Director of Digital Economy at the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo), Bonifasius W Pujianto, emphasized the significance of implementing specific policies to regulate the digital economy. Such measures are essential for aligning the efforts of various ministries and agencies to achieve their targets by 2030.

Bonifasius referenced the White Paper titled "National Strategy for the Development of Indonesia's Digital Economy 2030," which outlines that by this period, Indonesia's digital economy is expected to contribute 20.2 percent to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Therefore, specialized policies are necessary to attain this goal.

"Policies are indeed the foundation, as we cannot operate in a sectoral or isolated manner. This requires what one might call orchestration, because, in an orchestra, there are not only violin players. There are violins, guitars, basses, saxophones, and many others. They must work together to create harmony, and the same principle applies to the digital economy," stated Bonifasius at the Kemenkominfo office in Central Jakarta on Friday.

According to Bonifasius, numerous ministries and agencies are involved in the development of Indonesia's digital economy in the future. Among these are the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, which focuses on enhancing the digital economy from a creative perspective; the Ministry of Industry, which aims to promote the digitalization of various industrial sectors; and the Ministry of Finance, which is responsible for formulating appropriate financial policies. Additionally, Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) play crucial roles in regulating digital financial transactions.

He also highlighted the significant contribution of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) in the development of the digital economy, as it is entrusted with preparing the necessary digital infrastructure and cultivating digital talent to foster the growth of the digital economy ecosystem.

Reflecting on the contribution of the digital economy to the GDP in 2023, which stands at approximately 4.6 percent, with a target nearly five times that by 2030, and considering the impending leadership transition, it is essential to implement specific policies to ensure that the actions of ministries and agencies align from one period to the next in order to achieve the digital economy targets.

Boni stated, "The special policy has been formulated, and we hope it will soon be released in the form of a Presidential Regulation concerning the digital economy." The digital economy is a crucial component of the four pillars that underpin the success of Indonesia's digital transformation, in alignment with the Vision Indonesia Digital 2045. In addition to the digital economy, the government is also preparing digital infrastructure, digital governance, and a digital society as other pillars that will support the success of the national digital transformation.
